When a recording exists, when a transcript does, and when neither will.

Section: Data Availability. Web version: https://ghost.supermanservices.ca/help/recordings-and-transcripts

A recording belongs to the tool that took the call. Ghost shows one when the tool stored one and the connection can read it.

## When a recording will not exist
- The call happened on a system that was not recording.
- Recording is off for that line, or for that type of call.
- The tool's retention period has passed.
- The call reached Ghost by a route that carries no audio.

## Transcripts
A transcript requires a recording. Where one exists, Ghost can analyse what the call was about; where it does not, the call is still a call, with its time, direction, duration and outcome — just without content.

## Why this is not a setting in Ghost
Turning recording on or off changes how your phone system behaves and, in several places, what the law requires you to tell callers. That decision belongs in the tool that takes the call, not in a reporting product.
